Grapeseed oil (Vitis Vinifera) began as a humble bi-product of wine and grape juice production, but quickly became a star in its own right.
A light, super quickly absorbed oil that’s packed full of omega fatty acids and vitamin E, it’s great for skincare.
Very light and easily absorbed, it’s a great carrier oil for more intense essential oils. It’s non-comedogenic (it doesn’t clog pores) so when you want that hydrating hit of vitamins and locked in moisture, it’s a great oil to reach for.
Grapeseed oil has plenty of benefits for skincare. Here are the main reasons I included it in our all-natural botanical range of skincare products.
We use Grapeseed in our Balancing Face Oil and our Face and Eye Cream because it’s very rich in natural compounds that have incredible benefits for skin. Top of the list has to be Linoleic acid, which promotes moisture retention in skin and hair and is an anti-inflammatory, great for soothing irritated skin.
It’s also a great emulsifier, making essential oil blends lighter and more easily absorbed, making treatments friendlier to oily or outbreak prone skin.
It’s calming, hydrating and gentle to skin.
Grapeseed oil also contains Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene, both of which are natural anti-oxidants, slowing the signs of aging and tightening skin. They also prevent the loss of moisture from skin and naturally balance oil production, helping to cleanse your pores.
It’s also rich in Oleic Acids, commonly known as Omega 9. Omega 9 is a fatty acid which improves the softness and suppleness of skin and hair, increasing natural radiance. They also act as a natural anti-oxidant, and reduce the signs of aging such as fine lines.
Grapeseed is a key ingredient in our Facial Cleanser. As well as Omega 9 and Linoleic acid, Grapeseed is also rich in Palmitic, Stearic and Palmitoleic acids. Palmitic acid is a softening emollient, making Grapeseed the perfect base with which to mix other essential oils, binding them with water for a perfectly smooth cleanse.
Stearic acid is fantastic for purging the dirt and excess sebum from skin gently and naturally. It binds water and oils too, making it exceptional for mixing in cleansers like ours.
Palmitoleic acid brightens skin, improves elasticity and locks in moisture while delaying the signs of premature aging.
Because Grapeseed Oil has such fantastic benefits for skin, is vegan, cruelty-free and 100% natural botanical, you should be looking for it on the ingredients lists of any moisturisers, face oils, cleansers or balms. Good quality natural skincare products will use Grapeseed as a premium alternative to synthetic emollients, which do little for skin.
